Every year around this time, certain states offer tax-free shopping before the start of the school year. Yay for us because Missouri is indeed one of these states! This weekend, August 6th through August 8th, marks the opportunity to save a little money since we all know that raising kids can be a bit expensive, so take advantage of stretching those dollars if your family could use some new clothes and shoes, school supplies, and/or computer equipment. There are a few rules for what items qualify, and the Missouri Department of Revenue offers the following guidelines:

The sales tax exemption is limited to:

  •  Clothing – any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
  •  School supplies – not to exceed $50 per purchase
  •  Computer software – taxable value of $350 or less
  •  Personal computers – not to exceed $1,500
  •  Computer peripheral devices – not to exceed $1,500
  •  Graphing Calculators - not to exceed $150

Even purchases made online but delivered to you in Missouri can be tax-exempt. If you want more info and have questions, answers may be found on the Department of Revenue's website. Happy shopping!
